Schmidt Todd Named to Roger Clemens Award Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Preseason honors continue to pour in for the Arkansas baseball team as the 2007 season approaches with Nick Schmidt and Jess Todd being named to the Roger Clemens Award watch list on Wednesday.

“It is great for these guys to be getting the preseason attention they deserve,” Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. “Nick has been our Friday night guy since he stepped on campus and there is isn’t anyone more deserving then he is.

“Jess’ reputation on the mound must precede him a little bit to be named to this list straight out of junior college. But, I’m glad he is on there because his talent shouldn’t go unnoticed.”

Schmidt, a St. Louis, Mo., native returns for his third season with the Hogs after going 9-3 in 2006 with a 3.01 ERA and 145 strikeouts. Schmidt has already been tabbed as a first-team preseason All-American and named to the Brooks Wallace Award watch list.

Todd, a junior from Kilgore, Texas, went 9-2 with a 1.47 ERA last season at Navarro [Texas] Junior College, earning All-America honors. He pitched 73.1 innings while striking out 73 and saving two games. Todd’s 1.47 ERA ranked 18th nationally in the NJCAA.
