FAYETTEVILLE — The 11th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s cross country team continues its season Saturday morning at the adidas/UCI Invitational in Irvine, Calif. The women’s 5K competition begins at 10 a.m. (CT) on the Anteater Recreation Center Fields. Saturday’s race will mark the Razorbacks’ second meet of the young season. “Traditionally, this is a race of about 40 teams,” head coach Lance Harter said. “A lot of Southern California schools will jump in there. It’s a 5K race. California cross country is more of a blend of road racing than it is cross country racing. They’ll be running on a little bit of grass and then some asphalt. It’s one of those courses where we’ll get our racing flats out.” In the team’s first outing of the season, Diane Robison paced Arkansas to a dual win over Missouri Southern at Agri Park in Fayetteville. The Razorback sophomore captured the event title with a 4K run of 14:39.5 and led a sweep of the top-four spots for Arkansas, which included Robison, Shannon Klenke, Paige Johnston and Keri Wood, respectively. Saturday’s race will be Arkansas’ first 5,000-meter event of the season. The adidas/UCI Invitational will be split into two women’s races with the ‘B’ event starting at 10 a.m., and the ‘A’ race slated for a 10:30 a.m. start. Having run a younger lineup in the season opening, the Razorbacks will introduce a group of veterans for this next meet. “We’re going to lead off Semehar Tesfaye,” Harter said. “We’re really excited about her. Grace Heymsfield is a young lady that has improved leaps and bounds. Kaitlin Flattmann–the SEC Freshman of the Year last year–has been training hard and is a year older, a year wiser, as is Jessica Jackson. We’re excited about putting those runners back in the lineup.” For more information regarding Razorback cross country or University of Arkansas athletics, please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
