Season ends for Tigu in second round

ATHENS, GA. — After winning her first NCAA Individual Tournament match of her Razorback career, junior Anouk Tigu was defeated in the second round by Lenka Broosova (34-7) of Baylor, 6-3, 6-0, at the Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga. This ends a stellar year for Tigu and proves that she has much more to bring to the table next year for her senior season. “I’m extremely proud of the season that Anouk had individually,” said head coach Michael Hegarty, “and even more for her all-around efforts to make herself and her team better. I foresee an exciting senior year for her next year.”

Tigu, who reached the second round after defeating Reka Zsilinszka of Duke in straight sets, faced a much tougher and higher ranked opponent in Broosova. Broosova is ranked No. 5 in singles by ITA.

However, the native of Holland ends her season with compiled singles record of 24-11 and 14 conference victories including one in the SEC Tournament. Tigu also fell one victory short of becoming just the fourth Razorback women’s player to advance to the round of 16 and qualify as an all-American, which would have put her in the ranks with Maria Pavlidou, Chin-Bee Khoo and Aurelija Miseviciute.

The Hogs number one player finished the season ranked No. 29 in singles and will return next year not only to get her degree, but also to make her run as one of the top players in the nation.
