FAYETTEVILLE — After a three-week break from competition, the No. 22 University of Arkansas men’s cross country team returns to action Saturday for the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va. The men’s 8K race is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. (CT) start on the Cavaliers home course. The Razorbacks will be one of three ranked teams in Saturday’s race. “We’re excited to get out to Virginia to race again,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “It’s been a good three weeks since our last race and it’s given us some time to get our team on the same page, physically. This race comes at the right time for us. Our kids have been working very hard and have been disciplined in doing the things they need to do to be successful this season.” Saturday’s race will be the Razorbacks’ first competition since their season-opening dual win against Missouri Southern. That meet was run Aug. 30 in Fayetteville. In that race, Solomon Haile and Eric Fernandez ran to first- and second-place finishes, respectively. Arkansas is set to add transfer Kemoy Campbell to its lineup for his debut in Cardinal and White. In addition to the Razorbacks and host Virginia, the field at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational will include California, Duke, Howard, Kentucky, No. 21 Michigan, Norfolk State, No. 4 Oklahoma and Virginia Commonwealth. California is also receiving votes in this week’s release of the national poll. Up one spot from the previous two weeks, Arkansas is ranked 22nd in the most recent release of the USTFCCCA coaches’ poll. The Razorbacks are one of three teams from the Southeastern Conference in the national top 30, along with Texas A&M and Georgia. In regional rankings, Arkansas holds steady as the third-ranked team in the South Central Region. The remainder of Arkansas’ 2012 schedule includes the Wisconsin adidas Invitational (Oct. 12), Chile Pepper Festival (Oct. 13), SEC Championship (Oct. 26), NCAA South Central Regional Championship (Nov. 9) and NCAA Championship (Nov. 17). The Chile Pepper Festival and Regional meet will be contested at Agri Park, the Razorbacks’ home course.
