SEC Weekend at Bogle Park vs No. 5 Texas A&M

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas softball team resumes SEC play with a three-game series against No. 5 Texas A&M, beginning Friday evening at Bogle Park. First pitch of the series opener is set for 5 p.m. (CT). The Razorbacks have won their last three games including a series win at No. 25 Missouri last weekend. General admission is free for home games with gates opening one hour prior to first pitch.

Last Time Out
In a top-30 RPI matchup at Bogle Park, Arkansas posted a 3-1 win over Tulsa behind a complete-game performance from Caroline Hedgcock. Offensively, Autumn Russell and Loren Krzysko each had two hits and scored a run. It was Arkansas’ first home win against Tulsa since 2005.

Carol the Hedgehog
After 12.2 inning of relief work over three appearances at Oklahoma and Missouri last week, freshman Caroline Hedgcock produced a complete-game effort against Tulsa (April 11). In picking up the win, she allowed an unearned run on just four hits to go along with two strikeouts and no walks. It was the Razorbacks’ 13th complete game of the season.

Let the Defense Work
Heading into their weekend set against No. 5 Texas A&M, the Razorbacks have three infielders ranked among the SEC top 11 in defensive assists. Autumn Russell (at third base) is second with 98 assists, Madison Yannetti (second base) is ninth with 87 and A.J. Belans (shortstop) is 11th with 80. On the receiving end of those throws, Ashley Diaz (first base) leads the SEC with 321 putouts.

Series vs Texas A&M
Arkansas and Texas A&M have played 15 times prior to this weekend’s series with the Razorbacks looking for their first win in the head-to-head matchup. Six of the previous 15 meetings have been decided by two or fewer runs. The programs have only met once before in Fayetteville, a three-game series in 2014.

Arkansas held steady at No. 27 in the April 10 release of the NCAA Softball RPI. All 13 teams in the SEC are positioned in the top 36. Texas A&M ranks fourth in the most recent RPI. In the weekly top 25 releases, Arkansas is 24th in the NFCA poll and receiving votes in the USA Softball poll; Texas A&M is ranked fifth in both.
