Several Razorbacks sign as free agents

Several former University of Arkansas football players have signed free agent contracts or been invited to join a rookie camp since Sunday. Offensive tackle Jose Valdez has signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Valdez appeared in 38 games at Arkansas, including 22 starts. He started every game in 2008 at strong side tackle and was one of five Razorbacks to start each contest for Arkansas last year. He The New York Jets signed tight end Andrew Davie, who was a three-year letterwinner for the Razorbacks. Davie finished his career with 24 receptions for 199 yards and six touchdowns. He finished the 2008 season with eight catches for 71 yards and three touchdowns. Cornerback Jamar Love was signed by the New England Patriots. Love was a four-year letterwinner at Arkansas who played in 42 career games and started nine. He finished his career with 79 tackles, including three for a loss and he broke up eight passes. The Tennessee Titans signed quarterback Alex Mortensen. He spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons at Arkansas before transferring for a year to Samford. He returned to Arkansas in 2007, and did not play as a senior in 2008 Wide receiver Marcus Monk agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers. Monk, who was a member of the football team from 2004-07, played in 43 career games. He had 138 receptions for 2,151 yards and 27 touchdowns. Quarterback Casey Dick was invited to the New York Jets’ rookie camp. Dick was a four-year letterwinner who appeared in 38 career games and started 32. He was third in Arkansas history in career pass completions (473), attempts (850), yards (5,858) and touchdowns (47). His career pass completion percent (55.6) ranked as the second-highest. He finished his career with three rushing touchdowns and one touchdown reception.
