Shean gets hole in one

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas senior Kelli Shean knocked in a hole-in-one and moved into a tie for eighth-place at the World Amateur Team Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Thursday.

Shean is playing as part of the three player South African team which moved into a tie for fifth overall.

Shean’s perfect shot came on the par three fifth hole in Thursday’s round. She was even through the first four holes and played the front nine one-under. Shean had three birdies and a bogey on the back nine finishing the day three under.

Shean finished the round three under with a 69 pairing with her first round two-under 70 for 139. The Cape Town, South Africa, native is just five strokes behind leader Jessica Korda of the United States. Korda is in with a 134 (68-66).

Korea leads the field at 15-under 273, followed by the United States with 274 and Germany with 277. The Philippines in in fourth with 279 and there is a four-way tie for fifth with Mexico, Sweden, Argentina and South Africa in the clubhouse with 281.

Play in the 52-team event continues through Saturday.

Shean returns to the States in time to join the Razorbacks in Boulder City, Nev., for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Monday.
