FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas junior Kelli Shean earned selection to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf First-Team the league office announced today.

It is the Cape Town, South Africa, native’s first selection to the All-SEC team and the sixth first-team honor for the Razorbacks in program history."This is a tremendous honor for Kelli,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “Kelli has worked really hard to accomplish her goals of being an all-conference and All-American and this is the first step in that. She is a true champion. Her game is solid in all areas and it’s exciting to see her hard work pay off with some recognition.”

Although Shean has been a solid competitor and consistent contributor in her first two seasons, she has emerged as a team leader on and off the course as a junior. She leads the team with a career-best 72.90 stroke average and ranks sixth in the SEC heading into the postseason.

Shean captured her first collegiate win in the second event of the year with a career-best 209 at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. Her rounds of 74-68-67 put her in the clubhouse with a seven-under 209. Her third round 67 is a career-best and is one of the school record for a single round.Shean has been the Razorbacks best finisher in nine of 10 events this year and all of her scores have counted towards the team total. Shean has seven top 20 and six top 10 finishes. In addition, her fourth-place finish at the SEC Championship last week is a personal best.

“Kelli is only a junior,” Estes-Taylor said. “Her future is very bright. Her ultimate goal is to play professionally and to earn Player of the Year and All-America honors and that is a definite possibility for her. She has all the tools to reach that goal. I also think our future as a program is bright with her in the lineup.”Estes-Taylor, Shean and the rest of the Razorbacks await word of an NCAA Regional selection later Monday.
