Shkorupeieva Honored By SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas senior Sasha Shkorupeieva has been named to the Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

The SEC Community Service Team looks to highlight a student-athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.

“Sasha is extremely deserving of this honor,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Throughout her Razorback career, she has consistently shared her positive can-do spirit with the community in countless ways. Contributing so much off the court, while competing at an elite level shows the quality of student-athlete that Sasha truly is.”

Shkorupeieva, from Odessa, Ukraine, has participated in a variety of community service opportunities at the University of Arkansas, including Sweat Hawgs, Book Hogs, the Razorback Canned Food Drive and Cooperative Emergency Outreach (CEO) in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The Sweat Hawgs program is a collaborative community outreach effort between the University of Arkansas Athletic Department, Fayetteville Public Schools and Farmington Public Schools. Razorback student-athletes use their peak physical condition to encourage physical education and healthy eating habits in local schools. Book Hogs — Read to Win initiative, which encourages students at the elementary school level to enjoy reading, has been one of the Razorbacks’ most successful programs over the years. CEO provides emergency assistance to residents of Washington County, Arkansas.

Shkorupeieva has also been involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which is comprised of leaders from each team who represent their fellow student-athletes and act as liaisons to the University of Arkansas, Razorback Athletics, the SEC and the NCAA.

A two-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Shkorupeieva is scheduled to graduate next spring with a degree in recreation and sport management.

On the court, Shkorupeieva has totaled 93 career victories combined in singles and doubles and helped guide Arkansas to NCAA Tournament appearances in each of the last two seasons as well as a current No. 18 national ranking.
