Smith and Sosebee Win Doubles Title in South Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – At the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C., Razorback netters Connor Smith and Drew Sosebee won the B-2 section doubles title with an 8-5 victory over Omar El Bouskouri and Joseph Withers from Coastal Carolina. Playing together for the first time, the duo won four matches over the three-day tournament.

In consolation play of the A-2 singles flight, freshman Chris Nott finished the event by defeating Guilherme Fonseca of Lander University, 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Jorge Villanueva played Lander’s Damien Cordesse in B-2 consolation play and lost 6-4, 6-4, but head coach Robert Cox was pleased with the effort he saw from the players.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start Friday,” Cox said. “But I’m proud of the way we improved overall and got stronger with each match as the tournament went on.”

In Texas, Colin Mascall and Blake Strode dropped an 8-5 decision to Arizona’s Bruno Alcala and Claudio Christen in the doubles final at the Midland Invitational.

The Razorbacks will return to action at the ITA Central Regional event played Oct. 24-28 in Tulsa, Okla. Log on to www.hogwired.com for continued coverage of Arkansas tennis.
