Soccer looks for four-in-a-row

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer team looks to make it four consecutive wins on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Jacksonville State Univ. at Lady’Back Field in Fayetteville beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Arkansas has won three consecutive games, the first two on the road, and then picked up a fantastic double-overtime victory over Missouri State on Friday night. All three wins were Arkansas shutouts and moved the Lady Razorbacks into the Southeastern Conference lead for both shutouts and team goals against average.

“We have had a very good year so far, but we can’t rest on our laurels,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “Sunday is going to be a key game for us so that we can head into the Southeastern Conference schedule with a winning streak. I’m looking forward to another tough match, especially since we are coming off that draining double-overtime victory.”

The Lady Razorbacks have been stifling on defense allowing just three goals in seven matches. Headlined by the play of freshman goalkeeper Britni Williams who ranks among the nation’s leaders in goals against average, the Lady’Backs have not surrendered a score in more than three games and are approaching the school record for consecutive minutes without conceding a score.

Offensively, Arkansas has been hot and cold. Following a six goal outburst against Louisiana Tech, Arkansas has scored just twice since then, but each Lady’Back score has been a game winner. Junior Lindsay Patterson and freshman Kelly O’Connor lead the Arkansas offense with four goals each and nine different Lady Razorbacks have at least one goal on the year.

Jacksonville State enters Sunday’s competition with an overall record of 2-5-0, but is coming off a tough victory on Friday night against Troy State. Arkansas and Jacksonville State have never met on the soccer pitch, but an interesting side note is that the Gamecocks head coach Julie Davis was a former Lady’Back assistant between 1999-2001.
