FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team (2-0) continues its fall schedule Wednesday with a doubleheader versus Butler Community College at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Bogle Park. The team got off to a 2-0 start last weekend, defeating Evangel University on Friday and Marion Military Institute on Saturday by scores of 7-1 and 12-0, respectively. Key contributors to the hot start included Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and first team All-SEC performer Devon Wallace. She went 4-8 over the weekend with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and four RBI. Also chipping in was junior Clarisa Navarro, going 3-4 on Saturday with two triples and two runs scored. Starting for the Razorbacks in both games was freshman Kelly Young. She earned a win in her Arkansas debut versus Evangel University and pitched three scoreless innings versus Marion Military Institute on Saturday. Kimmy Beasley, an All-SEC freshman team performer last season, pitched six scoreless and hitless innings over the weekend. She struck out 11 batters while earning one win. Head coach Mike Larabee was impressed with the opening weekend. “The pitching was great,” Larabee said. “Kimmy Beasley came out and really dominated both days. Kelly Young did great in her first starts as a Razorback. I was very happy with our hitting and in both games we did not commit any errors.” On Wednesday, Arkansas welcomes Butler Community College to Bogle Park. The Grizzlies are coming off of a 39-18 season in which they qualified for the NJCAA Division I tournament. They return seven starters from the 2012 team. Larabee commented on the Grizzlies coming to Fayetteville. “They have a couple pitchers that throw in the mid-sixties,” Larabee said. “They are going to be the hardest pitchers that we have seen so far. They are a very well coached team. They will have some kids that can swing the bat and are an athletic team as well.” Next up, the Razorbacks will hit the road for the only time this fall on Sunday, Oct. 7 for a doubleheader at Oklahoma State. Game one will begin at 3:00 p.m.
