FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas Razorbacks head to Sherwood, Ark., to face the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday, April 19. The first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Sherwood Sports Complex.
The Razorbacks are fresh off a 1-2 weekend against South Carolina last weekend when USC took two from the Hogs at Bogle Park. Arkansas picked up its first home win of the season in a 2-1 victory in extra innings against the Gamecocks. The non-conference game against Memphis marks the second meeting between the teams in Razorback history. The Tigers met the Razorbacks in 2010 when UA pulled out a 6-1 win over UM.
The neutral site in Sherwood sets the stage for the Razorbacks and the Tigers on Tuesday. Memphis had not seen the diamond since April 13 since the doubleheader against Conference USA foe Murray State was cancelled on Friday.
Senior Layne McGuirt went the distance in the circle for Arkansas last year against the Tigers. She collected seven strikeouts and held UM to just three hits. McGuirt just pitched her first Southeastern Conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon when she worked eight innings in the Razorbacks win over USC.
Stephanie Brewer was the top hitter for Arkansas against Memphis in 2010. She went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Becca Carden had a triple in the win last season as a pinch hitter.
Carden leads the Razorbacks this season with a .336 batting average and 23 RBI. The senior has collected nine doubles and six home runs this season. She earned two three-run home runs against Ole Miss in March and had a double and two runs scored last weekend against South Carolina. Freshman Amanda Geile and sophomore Courtney Breault earned back-to-back home runs on Sunday in the Razorbacks heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the Gamecocks.
The Razorbacks meet the non-conference foe on Tuesday before coming back to Fayetteville to prepare for a three-game weekend series against Georgia, April 22-24.
