Sooner Classic this weekend

FAYETTEVILLE – Four Razorbacks could play as many as seven individual draw tennis matches this weekend when Arkansas’ women’s tennis team competes in the Sooner Classic in Norman, Okla., Friday through Sunday.

Head coach Michael Hegarty is taking sophomore Valentina Starkova, sophomore Kelsey Sundaram, junior Emily Carbone and freshman Jade Frampton.

"It’s a medium-level tournament and they will play up to seven matches in three days," Hegarty says. "They will have four flights of singles and two flights of doubles."

Other schools represented include host Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, SMU, Depaul and Oregon, among others.

The Razorbacks have competed in the SEC Fall Coaches Classic this year. Starkova is 2-1 while Carbone, Frampton and Sundaram are 1-2. Last year, in helping Arkansas reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Sundaram was 26-11, Starkova 17-9 and Carbone 18-19.
