FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas plays host to the Midwest All-Stars Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in its second exhibition game of the season. Head coach Stan Heath and his staff also wrapped up recruiting for this season on Thursday. Following is a partial transcript from his press conference addressing the game and recruiting.
“Our class is now solidified with the addition of Olu Famutimi and Julius Lamptey. We feel like this class has the chance to be very special. Olu is a scoring machine. He’s very gifted athletically and he’s very dangerous in the open floor. Julius is a true low-post player. At 7-0, 270 pounds, he’s a man-child. There are some things he needs to improve on, but as he gets better, he could be unstoppable. I’ve been a part of top five recruiting classes before and in my mind, this one is as good as any of those. We addressed all of our major needs.”
The class overall, including Wednesday’s signees – guard Ronnie Brewer and forward Vincent Hunter:
“This class exceeded what I expected in our first year. We wanted to land some impact players, especially in our own backyard. We mapped out a plan and felt this class was very important. We tried to target eight guys and get four. It worked out very well. We used four official visits and got four players.”
