Stan Heath Press Conference Tulsa
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas plays host to No. 24 Tulsa (2-0) Saturday at 4 p.m. UA (1-1) lost at Oral Roberts on Tuesday, 76-64. The following is a partial transcript of Stan Heath’s Wednesday press conference.
“Losses leave a bad taste in your mouth. The best thing we can do is get back to practice after reviewing the film, correcting our mistakes and getting ready for Tulsa. After looking at the film last night and watching it again this morning, there are a lot of mistakes we made. I think the big thing that is important for our team is that we’re probably going to have some difficulties if we don’t get stronger or solid performances from [Eric] Ferguson and [Dionisio] Gomez. Both of those guys have been playing pretty well and they had two of their worst performances.
“At the same time, I thought Kendrick Davis showed some signs that he’s a guy who can score and get things going. It’s good to see him have a coming out party. Alonzo Lane was a guy who made eight free throws and only got two shots. We’ve got to get more production out of him – he’s got to be more of a force. The foul situation really hurt us. We’ve got to do a better job moving our feet and keeping out of foul trouble.
“We need to move on. Tulsa’s an awfully good team and they have been for a while. This might be one of the best teams that they’ve had in a long time. This senior class has won about 85 games over the past few years. They were freshmen when they went to the Elite Eight so they know what it takes to win. Again, they’re another veteran ball club that has a lot of experience.
“When I look at that team, I’m really impressed with their transition game. They can really get the ball up the floor and finish. They have very good three-point shooting. The thing that makes them so difficult to match up against is they have a good balance inside and out. You can’t key in on one guy. They have about three to five guys that can put some numbers up.
