FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas plays host to Western Carolina Monday at 7:05 p.m. in a non-televised game. The game is the final contest before the Christmas break for the Razorbacks. The next game is Dec. 30 at Tulsa. UA is 6-2 following Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma State. WCU is 4-3, but the Catamounts are led by Kevin Martin, the nation’s leading scorer with 28.0 points a game. Following is a partial transcript of head coach Stan Heath’s press conference.
“We had a good day of practice. We had some bounce in our legs and we seemed to have regrouped. Sometimes when you play a veteran team with juniors and seniors, you learn things that can help you down the road. Today, a couple of our guys spent some time in the weight room because they know they need to get stronger. A couple of others realized they can run down the floor harder.
“Western Carolina is scrappy. Kevin Martin is really scoring at a high level. He’s leading the nation right now. I’m sure he’s going to get his, but we want him to earn it. He scored 44 against Georgia earlier this year and that caught our attention.
“Western Carolina is a dangerous team. They’ve played Georgia and Virginia Tech, and played close games. They have players that can keep you in the game. We have a young team and if they start thinking about the holidays or our last game and we don’t have our minds right, we could head down a dangerous path.”
