Strong Saturday For Lysa

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – For Arkansas women’s tennis, day two of the Uva Invite was highlighted by senior Yuliya Lysa.

Lysa downed Virginia’s Maci Epstein in a three-set battle. Epstein gained a one-set advantage. But Lysa pulled it even in the second set and went on to take the third set and the match, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the blue flight singles championship Sunday. The Kiev, Ukraine native, who is ranked No. 30 in the Oracle/ITA preseason poll, will face Virginia’s No. 3 Julia Elbaba.

In doubles action, Lysa and Hudson split a pair of matches and claimed third place in the orange flight.

In Little Rock, Peyton Jennings picked up a hard-fought 7-6(3), 7-6(3) win over Ole Miss’ Allie Robbins.

“Today was a learning filled day at both tournaments,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Right now we are trying to learn as much about our team as possible during individual competition. Yuliya will go for a championship tomorrow which promises to be an excellent match.”

The Razorbacks return to action in Charlottesville and Little Rock Sunday, Sept. 27.
