Note: Each week throughout the summer, a captain from the Razorback soccer team will write a journal entry to share with fans their thoughts on the upcoming season and what the team is doing to prepare. The entries will rotate among sophomore Allie Chandler, senior Camille Flores, junior Kendal Winston and senior Britni Williams. This week’s installment is from Winston.
I just got back into town Saturday night and it feels great to be back! I have missed the team so much. I finally got to see everyone this morning at workouts. Everyone has been working so hard and it’s great to be back in the team atmosphere.
This is our last full week of summer workouts. We have started to taper down on the weight lifting so we have fresh legs going into pre-season. We are still running hard to prepare for the big fitness test that is less than two weeks away! Next Friday is our first official day of training, but starting Tuesday we have meetings. Wednesday is the day we are all looking forward to because our freshmen will be arriving and we get all our new Nike gear! Equipment day is always so much fun for us. We call it Christmas in August!
When I got back, the first thing I noticed when I drove through campus is our locker room is finally getting expanded! The team is so excited. We are so thankful that we play for a school that provides us with everything we need to be successful. It may be ready for our first SEC game this fall and with 31 girls on our roster this year, it’s going to be great having some extra space!
We have 19 days until our first game (exhibition) at Saint Louis University. This summer has really flown by fast! We have been working so hard and it is such a good feeling to know our hard work is about to pay off. All this off-season training has been tough, but our team is a family and we make it through everything together! We are excited to see big things happen this fall! It’s an exciting time to be a Razorback!
