This WeekArkansas swimming and diving travels to Athens, Ga. to take on No. 8 Georgia and back-to-back Division III Champion Emory University.
RecapThe Lady Razorbacks lost their last meet at home, 132-168, against LSU. Arkansas won seven events and turned in 11 career-best times.
Fulop DominatesSenior Mariann Fulop dominated the field in Arkansas’ first home meet against LSU. She had three of the Lady Razorbacks’ seven wins and turned in three career-best times. Fulop swept the backstroke events, turning in a 57.49 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:03.80 in the 200 backstroke. Fulop’s third and final win of the day came in the 400 individual medley as she cruised to first-place finish with a time of 4:28.75, beating her nearest competition by over six seconds.
Gregory’s GainsJunior Emily Gregory, who holds the school record in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events, swept the events against LSU posting a 55.64 in the 100 and a 2:04.59 in the 200. Her time in the 100 fly put her third in the Arkansas record books and was the second-best time in the SEC this year. Gregory’s time in the 200 was just .05 seconds off the Arkansas top five list.
More VictoriesAlso picking up wins for the Lady Razorbacks were sophomore Summer Jackson (24.03) in the 50 freestyle and senior Kristen Thibodeaux (5:04.79) in the 500 free.
Personal Best PerformancesThe Lady’Backs turned in 11 personal records versus LSU, the most out of any meet this season. Fulop and freshman Allison Chinn set three career-best times. Chinn’s times came in the 100 free, 200 free and 100 fly. Finishing with two personal-best times were sophomores Emily Fletcher and Macey Webb. Fletcher topped her times in the 1,000 free and the 400 IM, while Webb placed second in the 200 free with a 1:55.25 and third in the 500 free with a 5:07.52. Sophomore Elizabeth Engs also ended the meet with a best time of 4:33.95 in the 400 IM.
One-Two PunchArkansas finished 1-2 in the 400 IM with Fulop earning top honors and Engs following. Fletcher was close behind, finishing in fourth. Each Lady’Back earned career-best times in the event.
Top TimesAfter only three meets, the Lady Razorbacks have turned in 22 individual best times.More on FulopMariann Fulop remains undefeated winning seven straight races. Her victories came in the 200 back (3), the 100 back (2), the 200 IM (1) and the 400 IM (1).
Top FinishersSeveral Lady’Backs have two or more individual wins under their belts this year. Gregory enjoys four victories, Thibodeaux and Jackson have three each and junior Brieanne Kushner lays claim to two.
About GeorgiaThe Bulldogs return 19, including nine all-Americans, and welcome 11 newcomers. They are led by head coach Jack Bauerle. In the 2005-06 season the Bulldogs finished 11-0 in dual meets, first at the SEC Championships and second at the NCAA Championships.
Georgia RecapThe Bulldogs post a 5-1 record with a their last win against No. 10 Michigan on Nov. 4.
Arkansas versus the BulldogsGeorgia leads the all-time series 2-0 and won the last meeting in 2004, 138-85.
About EmoryThe Eagles return 12, including eight all-Americans, and welcome 14 newcomers. They are led by head coach John Howell. The 2005-06 season the Eagles finished 6-3 and first in the NCAA Championships.
Emory RecapThe Eagles are 2-2 in dual meets this season. They are coming off of a first-place finish at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Nov. 4.
