FAYETTEVILLE-The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team’s final home meet of the season against Tulane University scheduled for Jan. 14 has been canceled.
Due to the financial impacts of Hurricane Katrina, Tulane has suspended several athletic programs including the Green Wave’s swimming and diving team.
Arkansas swimming head coach Anne Goodman James said she was disappointed about the cancellation of the meet but is hopeful about Tulane’s return to competition.
“Tulane is a great team and we would have loved to have had the opportunity to compete with them,” she said. “In addition to canceling most of their meets next semester, they are also dropping the swimming program at the end of this academic year. We wish their team and coach the best of luck this season and in the future.”
After the holiday break, the Lady Razorbacks return to the pool, Jan. 20, in Gainesville, Fla., to meet Florida and Alabama.
