Swimming and Diving Senior Day Set for Noon

FAYETTEVILLE-The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team opens Southeastern Conference competition, Saturday, Dec. 3 at noon.

The meet was originally set for 1:30 p.m. but due to Kentucky’s travel schedule the contest time was changed. In addition to the conference opener, the Lady Razorbacks are honoring senior Angela Kora.

Last season, Arkansas fell to the Wildcats, 84-54, in Lexington. Kentucky has the advantage as it leads the all-time series 1-9.

Lady’Back swimming head coach Anne Goodman James said she looks forward to the first SEC test of the season as Arkansas returns to the friendly confines of home since the season opener, Oct. 15, against Nebraska.

“Kentucky is a very strong team coming off a great season last year returning six all-Americans two in diving and four in swimming,” she said. “They are a very, very strong diving team and very strong in breaststroke, which is one of our strengths as well so there will be some good match-ups there.”

Goodman James said she expects the Wildcats to be competitive in several events but the Lady’Backs have sophomore Emily Gregory returning to the pool for the first time this season after she underwent shoulder surgery in the off-season.

“They also have a tremendous amount of depth in sprint freestyle and distance freestyle events,” she said. “So they’re going to be a tough challenge for us, but a team that we raced very well with last year.”
