Tennis Hogs Travel to Oklahoma for Regional Match; Ranked 25th in FILA Rankings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas heads to Norman, Okla. Wednesday for a 5 p.m. regional showdown with No. 55 Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Razorbacks, ranked 25th in the latest FILA Intercollegiate Tennis rankings, are 14-8 this season heading into Wednesday’s match, while the Sooners are also 14-8. Arkansas defeated Oklahoma Jan. 22, 4-0, in the finals of the ITA Central Region Indoor Championships. The Sooners knocked off the Hogs in Fayetteville in 2005, 6-1, but the Hogs beat OU the last time the schools met in Norman in 1992, 5-3.

The Sooners are 1-5 in the Big 12 this season, and are led by 95th-ranked Marek Velicka. Velicka is 14-8 in singles this season.

The Razorbacks, 5-5 in the SEC, are 8-0 against regional opponents this season. Arkansas is led by senior Matt Roberts. Roberts, ranked 57th, sports a team-high 24 victories, and is 15-5 in dual matches and 7-3 in the SEC. Freshman Blake Strode, ranked 124th, is also 7-3 in conference play, and boasts a 22-5 overall record.
