Tennis travels to Colorado Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Nine members of the University of Arkansas women’s tennis team will compete Friday through Sunday in Boulder, Colo., at the Colorado Tennis Invitational.

Along with the Razorbacks and host Buffaloes, the singles and doubles event at the South Campus Courts will feature student-athletes from Air Force, Colorado State and Louisiana-Lafayette. There will be two singles draws, Gold and Black, and one doubles draw, Silver.

Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty is sending his three returning letterwinners in Anouk Tigu, Emily Carnbone and Kate Lukomskaya, along with freshmen Lindsey Gray, Annemijn Koenen, Adriana Nieto, Claudine Paulson, Valentina Starkova and Kelsey Sundaram.

"This will be another solid fall event for us to gain some much-needed experience from," Hegarty said. "It will also be the first chance for us to travel with the whole group, so we will be looking forward to making progress."

This weekend’s competition will be the fall debut for Tigu, who was the lone Razorback ranked in singles, at No. 59, when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released rankings earlier this month. Tigu also earned a spot in the qualifying singles section of the upcoming Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.

Each singles draw will have 16 players; the doubles draw will have 16 teams. The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. Central time Friday and continues at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
