The Daily Call – Aug. 2, 2013
The Dog Days (Hog Days?) of Summer are quickly passing by. While summer hasn’t completely run its course just yet, it’s nearly time to transition into a new season: football season.
A New Season Begins…
Football returns to the forefront of many minds, as the college football offseason officially ends this week with the opening of fall football camps. Arkansas officially reports on Sunday for its first season under new head football coach Bret Bielema, while practices get underway on Monday.
Just 29 days to kickoff. Ready to start filling this place again?
Woooooooooo…Pig Sooie!
Does the upcoming football season have you fired up? While you’re still 29 days from joining 72,000 of your friends in Donald W. Reyolds Razorback Stadium and calling the hogs, you can still make your voice be heard by showing off your preseason pride and excitement.
Thanks to you, the fans, Arkansas’ Hog Call has been voted all the way to the finals of the SiriusXM College Sports Traditions Tournament this week against the Army/Navy Game March-On. Arkansas is currently leading, but the vote is still open through 4:30 p.m. today.
Voting is exclusive to this link on Facebook and you may only vote once.
USA Today Coaches Poll Released:
Another sign of the approaching football season, the 2013 preseason USA Today Coaches Poll, was released yesterday. Reigning BCS national champion Alabama topped the poll, receiving 58 first-place votes, while Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford and Georgia rounded out the top five.
The complete poll can be found here.
Arkansas faces five teams in the preseason top 13, and one of@BretBielema’s most frequent answers to questions concerning the difficulty of the@RazorbackFBschedule is "They have to play us, too." Arkansas is the only team in the country that will face four teams ranked in the top 10 of the USA Today Preseason Poll in four consecutive weeks:

Sept. 28: Arkansas vs. No. 6 Texas A&M

Oct. 5: Arkansas @ No. 10 Florida

Oct. 12: Arkansas vs. No. 7 South Carolina

Oct. 19: Arkansas @ No. 1 Alabama
The Razorbacks will also face preseason No. 13 LSU on Nov. 29, traveling to Baton Rogue for a nationally televised game on CBS at 1:30 p.m.
@BretBielemahas also never been one to shy away from the underdog role. Since being introduced by @JeffLongUA as the 32nd head football coach of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, Bielema knew what challenges were ahead and was ready to embrace them. Literally.
“Right now, we’re going to embrace being the underdog,” Coach Bielema said. “We’re going to kiss it and make it feel good. We can’t accept it, but we’re going to move forward. I don’t want someone in this room right now to think that we’re great…I want to tell that to our players, make them understand it, breed it, live it, love it."
