Alex Perlman previews tonight’s @RazorbackWBB matchup

Happy New Year to us, as the SEC season is finally here! Undefeated @RazorbackWBB welcomes in No. 13/12 South Carolina to Bud Walton Arena this evening at 7 p.m.. It’s now time to put up or shut up. Arkansas is off to the best possible start, but that could all be for naught if the Hogs don’t continue that success into conference play.

Make no mistake; tonight’s game will be an all-out battle that goes the distance. Think Ali-Frazier or Mayweather-De La Hoya. There will be plenty of contact and the Razorbacks will experience the most physical game they’ve been in all season. When you think about it, that’s really exactly how you want to kick off the SEC.

Arkansas will see what it has very early on in the most anticipated match-up of the season thus far. Here are some things to look for as the two teams clash.

Watch how the freshmen react to South Carolina’s intensity and pressure. They have not seen a team this talented yet and tonight’s game should serve as an eye-opening experience for players like Jessica Jackson, McKenzie Adams, and Kelsey Brooks. Can the Hogs match the physicality on the boards that the Gamecocks will surely bring? South Carolina is outrebounding opponents by 11 currently and the team gets a lot of second chance opportunities on the glass. Melissa Wolff is a strong rebounder that could provide some much needed toughness and supplement the efforts of starters Jackson and Jhasmin Bowen. Arkansas MUST knock down open shots. This encounter features two of the top three teams when it comes to scoring defense. Points will be at a premium (last year’s game was a 43-40 final.) So, when the Hogs get the chance to launch the three or hit a 15-footer, they simply have to capitalize.

Jeri and I will join you at 6:45 for the Razorback Courtside Show, with tipoff at 7 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena. I hope you’ll join us to root on the Razorbacks as they look to continue what could be a very special season.

Go Hogs!
