FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas safety Tramain Thomas was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Thomas helped lead the Razorback defense, which forced Texas A&M into four turnovers and held the Aggies to 186 yards less than their season average, in Saturday’s 24-17 victory in the Southwest Classic. The junior from Winnie, Texas, recovered a fumble for the first time this season and grabbed his second interception of the season to tie for the team lead. Thomas also collected a season-high seven tackles.
Thomas is the first Razorback to be named SEC Defensive Player of the Week since Chris Houston on Nov. 22, 2006.
12th-ranked Arkansas returns to conference play this week when it travels to No. 7 Auburn. The Razorbacks and Tigers are set to square off from Jordan-Hare Stadium at 2:30 p.m. on CBS.
