Three Razorbacks Qualify for Finals at Hurrica
TULSA, Okla. – Three Razorbacks will be featured in the finals of the Tenth Annual Tulsa Hurricane Men’s Tennis Invitational on Sunday. Adrians Zguns advanced to the finals of the Blue Bracket (singles) where he will face Drake’s Jack Frankowicz. Aleksey Bubis and Kristofer Ivarsson advanced to the doubles finals to be played at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Head coach Robert Cox was pleased with the outcomes of the day.

“Overall I’m pleased,” Cox said. “Everybody got to play and we had some good matches. Anytime you have a freshman advance to the finals, it’s good. This is Zguns’ first collegiate tournament final and I’m excited about that. Just like Hunter Benson was the story of yesterday, Zguns is the story of today. He came over here and won three quality matches and is in the finals.

“Bubis and Ivarsson are two quality doubles players that I expected to be in the finals. They played a good match today and we’ll just have to hope we can come out here and have a good match in us tomorrow.”

Adrians Zguns continued his winning ways defeating Tulsa’s Ryan Livesay in two long sets, winning 7-5, 6-4. He faced Oklahoma State’s Jiri Jezek in the semifinals and won 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Zguns will face Drake’s Frankowicz in the finals Sunday at 9 a.m.

Aleksey Bubis picked up where he left off in singles competition. His 9 a.m. match saw him down Dustin Taylor (Tulsa) 6-1, 6-3. He moved on to face Jack Frankowicz of Drake in the noon match for a spot in the finals. Frankowicz had defeated Arkansas’ Kristofer Ivarsson, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, to earn the right to face Bubis. Bubis put up a good fight, but was unable to overcome Frankowicz, losing 7-5, 6-3.

Matt Roberts and Hunter Benson both fell in the quarterfinals. Benson fell to Oklahoma’s Brad Pragmore in two, 6-4, 6-0. Roberts had a bit more success, fighting back in the second set, but eventually fell, 6-2, 6-4.

In the backdraw, Talley Parker won his first singles match. He defeated Southwest Missouri State’s Jacob Neimeyer. Controlling him the whole way, Parker won easily, 6-2, 6-2. Parker moved on to face Ricardo Rojas (Tulsa) in the second round of the backdraw. Rojas was the victor in two sets, 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles action, Bubis and Ivarsson advanced to the finals, defeating Tommy Garrison and Matt Long (OU), 8-6, where they will play at 10:30.
