Three Takeaways From Opening Day

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Monday marked the beginning of official practice for the Arkansas men’s basketball program and the team took full advantage with a 6 a.m. session, followed by a high-intensity afternoon practice in Bud Walton Arena.

With five seniors and plenty of new faces to go around, here are three takeaways from the opening day of practice.

Long and Lanky
With the addition of Daniel Gafford and Darious Hall, head coach Mike Anderson has two freshmen with massive wingspans that fit perfectly into the #Fastest40 system. Gafford continues to showcase his length and athleticism around the rim and Hall took a page from Jaylen Barford’s book with a massive chase down block in transition during the early portion of drills.

Dynamic Duo
Fans caught a glimpse of the huge upside of Adrio Bailey and C.J. Jones last season, but the duo has continued to develop in the offseason and look to garner even more attention during their sophomore campaigns. Bailey’s midrange jumper has added another dimension to his explosive game and Jones has continued to dial in his deadly jumper from long range.

Experience Matters
Arkansas has senior leadership at every turn. With two fifth-year leaders in Trey Thompson and Anton Beard, followed by second-year seniors Dustin Thomas, Daryl Macon and Jaylen Barford, the Razorbacks have proven players at every position. Thompson and Beard have been through the wars and played in 173 collegiate games, while Barford and Macon combined to score 26.2 points per game last season.
