Tigu falls in ITA finals opener

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Senior Anouk Tigu of the Razorback women’s tennis team suffered an opening round loss of the USTA/ITA Indoor Championships on Thursday. A straight set loss to Kristie Ahn of Stanford, 6-1, 7-5, will send the 18th-ranked Tigu to the consolation bracket, which will be played on Friday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

“Even with an uncharacteristic slow start, Anouk played toe to toe with an impressive player in Ahn,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “A point here or there prevented us from getting into that thid set. All around it was a solid performance.”

Both players came into the tournament with high hopes as Tigu was the Central Regional winner and ranked No. 18 in the nation in singles, while Ahn was the Northwest Regional winner and is ranked as the top freshman/newcomer by ITA.

Tigu’s next match will come in the consolation bracket against Danielle Lao of USC. That match is scheduled to start at 3:30 CST.
