FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas senior Anouk Tigu, fresh off winning an SEC tournament this past weekend, is ranked No. 18 in the nation in the pre-season Campbell’s ITA College Tennis Rankings.
Tigu was 23-10 a year ago, earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors, advanced to the second round of the NCAA individual championship and was named the ITA Central Region Player to Watch for this season.
In addition, junior Kate Lukomskaya, who is from Minsk, Belarus, is ranked No. 76 in the country. She was 23-13 a year ago. In doubles, Tigu and sophomore Claudine Paulson are ranked No. 26 in the country. The duo was 16-8 last year.
"In the pre-season, you want to see as many people as possible in the rankings because that means you had a good year last year," head coach Michael Hegarty says. "Those are good indicators. It will be good to see that many or more in the rankings when the spring starts because that will mean we had a good fall."
Tigu, a native of Moordrecht, Holland, began the year last weekend by winning the Flight 1A title at the SEC Coaches’ Classic at Auburn. Lukomskaya won the Flight 2B championship.
"The SEC Coaches’ Classic is essentially our individual championship," head coach Michael Hegarty says. "We had the best players from every school in the conference with the exception of Florida. She took on everybody and came out on top. She had a good, all-around, strong showing."
The Razorbacks compete next at the individual draw Sooner Classic in Norman, Okla., Sept. 24-26.
