@TomCollen Preparing For Vanderbilt

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas head women’s basketball coach Tom Collen met with members of the media today as he previewed the Razorbacks upcoming home game with Vanderbilt Thursday in Bud Walton Arena. Collen and the Razorbacks enter the game with a 17-8 overall record and a 4-8 mark in SEC action while Vanderbilt, who has been in and out of the polls most of the season, comes in 17-8 overall and 6-6 in league play. They are ranked No. 25 in the most recent coaches’ poll. “The team is pretty motivated right now,” Collen said of the Razorbacks. “We all wish we had another win or two under our belt but we still feel positive about our potential for the postseason. We feel like it is in our hands and we know first and foremost we need a win over Vanderbilt. “Vanderbilt is hard team to play,” Collen continued. “They are well-coached and very disciplined. They have two senior guards who might be the best guards in the history of their program. They are one of the better scoring teams in our league and it is hard to keep them down. Of course for us, we have to make shots and score a lot of points to get a win under our belt.” In conference-only game, Vanderbilt enters the week ranked second in free throw percentage, third in three-point percentage and first in rebounding defense. Arkansas counters ranked third in scoring defense, second in steals and first in turnover margin. “They don’t turn it over much,” Collen said. “Their offense is hard to guard but they have some holes. They are not real big in the post and you can take advantage of that. They are a little bit foul-prone and you have to get into their depth if you can. The Razorbacks have just four regular season games, two at home, remaining. Please call the Razorback Center for more information and tickets at 479-575-5151.
