Tonui Claims Share Of SEC Weekly Honor

SEC Release | 8K Blue Results

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Returning Arkansas cross country All-American Frankline Tonui has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Co-Runner of the Week, following his awe-inspiring performance last weekend at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The conference honor is the first for Tonui who has been a member of the Razorbacks’ top five in every meet he’s competed since his transfer from Iowa Central in 2015. He shares the award this week with MJ Erb of Ole Miss.

At Pre-Nationals, Tonui led Arkansas to a runner-up team finish as one of only three individual student-athletes to post a sub-24-minute time over the 8K course.

Tonui finished second only to three-time national champion Edward Cheserek of Oregon after surging past other competitors on the final stretch to cross the finish in 23 minutes, 56.10 seconds.

The bronze medalist at last year’s SEC cross country championship, Tonui will go for gold next weekend as the Razorbacks host the 2016 conference meet at Agri Park on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. CT.
