CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Samantha Marks and the third-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team finished strong with top-10 finishes at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., Sunday.
Marks, a Maitland, Fla., native, tied for ninth overall shooting 72-74-70=216, helping @RazorbackWGolf to the third-best round of the day with a 293. Arkansas finished fifth overall in the weather-hampered event shooting 298-291-293=882.
Weather delayed the finish of round two and teams had to finish up Sunday morning.
“We got out to a slow start in the first round but our goal was to finish strong and I think we did that,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “We did a good job of staying focused and committing to the process and when we do that good things happen.”
Junior Gabriela Lopez and sophomore Summar Roachell shot two-over 74’s in the final round. Lopez tied for 19th overall shooting 75-71-74=220. Roachell and Jordy LaBarbera both tied for 46th overall. Roachell posted rounds of 78-75-74=227 and LaBarbera shot 77-71-79=227. Junior Regina Plasencia finished tied for 73rd with rounds of 74-83-75=232.
“We have one more event this fall and then we will break things down and look at some details that we can improve on over the break from competition,” Estes-Taylor said. “We have a great group of players this year and I really believe we can do some amazing things on the golf course.”
Arkansas wraps up the fall at the Alamo Invitational Oct. 26-27.
