Track Hog Set for Pan American Games

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ J-Mee Samuels will be the lone Razorback competing in the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Track and fields events are scheduled to start Sun., July 22 and end Sun., July 29, 2007.

Samuels earned his spot on Team USA with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters at the USA Championships in June. Scheduled to start competition in the 100 meters on Mon., July 23, Samuels, a 2007 outdoor All-American in the 100 meters, will also be competing as a member of the 4×100-meter relay that begins competition Fri., July 27.

Team USA will be coached by Stanley Redwine, current head coach at the University of Kansas. Redwine is in his seventh season at the helm of the Jayhawk track and field program. Redwine is also a former Razorback lettermen and assistant coach.

During Redwine’s 11-year tenure as an assistant coach at Arkansas, the Razorbacks captured nine consecutive NCAA Championships and 22 titles from 1985 through 1994 in both track and field and cross country. He helped produce 14 All-Americans and two NCAA champions in hurdle and sprint events.
