FAYETTEVILLLE— Corinna Rees, Tiffany Phelps and Victoria Vela earned selection to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team it was announced recently.
The trio were among the nearly 500 women’s golf student-athletes selected and are the seventh, eighth and ninth honorees from the University of Arkansas.
“I’m so proud of Tiffany, Corinna and Victoria for their commitment to accomplishing their goal of becoming an academic All-American,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “I stress student first and athlete second. Our team does a great job in the classroom and it’s these young ladies that lead that effort. We work hard to perform on and off the golf course and I appreciate Corinna, Tiffany and Victoria’s determination to make this goal come true.”
The criteria for selection to the NGCA All-American Scholar team include a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50. Student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds in the season.
Rees is a political science and criminal justice major, Phelps is a two-time selection and is majoring in finance and Vela, a freshman on this year’s team, is a general business major at Arkansas.
Arkansas’ previous selections include MacKenzie Cato (1997), Gena Johnson (2005), Stacy Lewis (2005, 2006, 2007) and Phelps (2008).
