CHARLESTON, S.C. — University of Arkansas senior Emily Tubert shot a one-under 70 in the second round finishing tied for fifth in stroke play action at the 113th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., Monday. Tubert, 21, of Burbank, Calif., shot 71 in the first round for a 141, five strokes off the lead in the stroke play. In the second round, Tubert started her day on the front nine, counting a bogey on the fourth hole, turning one-over. She picked up birdies on 15 and 16 and finished strong with back-to-back pars for today’s round of 70. She finished stroke play with five birdies and 27 pars in two rounds. Tubert finished stroke play as the sixth-seed and takes on 59th-seed Ashlan Ramsey of Milledgeville, Ga., at 1:10 p.m. in the first round of match play. Sophomore Gabriela Lopez was tied for 55th overall in the first round with a 76. Lopez rallied and shot a 72 for a 148 finishing inside the qualifying cut for match play. Lopez faces 12-seed Kelly Shon of Port Washington, N.Y., at 10:50 a.m. in the first round of match play Wednesday. Senior Emma Lavy was tied for 72nd after the first round and finished tied for 87th with rounds of 77-76 for 153. Sophomore Regina Plasencia finished tied for 123rd with rounds of 79-78=157. She and Lavy did not make the cut.
