Two Game Winners Gives Goins SEC Honor

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman forward Parker Goins was tabbed as the SEC Freshman of the Week earlier today by the league office for her performance in Arkansas’ wins over Mississippi State and Oral Roberts. It’s the first conference weekly honor for the Oklahoma native and first for an Arkansas player this season.

“It was good to go 2-0 in the weekend,” Arkansas head coach Colby Hale said. “We have made progress in some areas and it’s always nice when that shows up in positive results. Parker and our entire attack are creating a lot of really good chances and to have two game winning goals like she had is big.”

Goins continued to showcase her offensive prowess over the weekend scoring the game-winning goal in both the SEC opener against Mississippi State and against Oral Roberts. Goins’ goal in the 88th minute against Mississippi State, leading to the 1-0 victory, handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the year and was Goins’ second goal in the last three matches.

She followed that up with her seventh score of the year, scoring in the 54th minute against Oral Roberts to break a 1-1 tie and eventually lead to a 3-1 win.

Goins currently leads the Razorbacks with seven goals on the year, which is good for fourth in the SEC. She has at least two points in four of her last five matches going back to Sept. 3 against Mississippi Valley State.

Her seven goals are already more than any Arkansas freshman player in a single season in the last 17 years, even topping former Razorback Ashleigh Ellenwood, who had six goals during her freshman campaign in 2012.
