Two for the show Hogs finish at Gopher Invitational

WAYZATA, Minn.-The fifth-annual Gopher Invitational concluded on Monday with the University of Arkansas men’s golf team taking second place of 12 teams with a 1-over 865(296-281-288). It was the Razorbacks first match of the 2009-2010 season, and the first since their dramatic ascent to the NCAA Championship’s final round. SMU won the tournament with an impressive 9-under showing of 855(285-290-280).

This year marked the Razorbacks second appearance at the Gopher Invitational held at the par 72, 7020 yard Spring Hill Golf Club, who previously finished 9th among the 12 teams.

The field further spread apart in the third round of the two-day tournament with host Minnesota falling from a tie with Arkansas in the second to third place with an 8-over 872(292-285-295). Charlotte held strong to its previous day’s place in fourth for the finish at an 11-over 875(298-281-296). Iowa jumped into fifth place from its previous seventh with a 14-over 878(294-294-290).

Notre Dame (+17), North Carolina Wilmington (+21), Wisconsin (+29), Lamar (+30), North Carolina-Greensboro (+35), Miami of Ohio (+45) and Northern Iowa (+46) evened out the leader board for the event.

SMU’s Kelly Kraft overtook first and second round leader Ben Pisani of Minnesota for the individual title. Kraft shot a 15-under 201(67-70-64) to Pisani’s 7-under 209(65-71-73).

Arkansas senior David Lingmerth moved into third place from his previous tie for seventh with a 4-under 212(75-69-68). Ethan Tracy tied for fourth with a 1-under 215(72-71-72). Austin Cook and Jamie Marshall tied at No. 16 with 4-over 220, (70-74-76) and (76-70-74), respectively. Tying for the No. 27 position, Ty Spinella shot a 7-over 78-71-74). Dalton Owens carded a 10-over 226(73-73-80) for an eventual tie at No. 38th.
