UA Freshman Cabada Makes USA National Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas freshman runner Fernando Cabada will represent the United States at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships after finishing fifth at the 2001 Winter Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, Washington, this past weekend.
Cabada competed in the 8,000 meter run for juniors’ ages 14-19 and finished in fifth place with a time of 24:47.20.
Cabada competed in several meets for the Hogs during the cross country season finishing 18th at the NCAA South Central Regional meet to help the Hogs qualify for the NCAA Championships meet, where he served as an alternate for the 2000 NCAA championship squad.
The Winter Cross Country Nationals serves as the U.S. National Championships, and is also the selection event for the U.S. team that will compete at the 2001 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, March 24-25 in Dublin, Ireland. Six championship races were conducted over a two-day period featuring more than 500 athletes. The top six finishers in the Senior and Junior competitions qualify for the U.S. team that will travel to Dublin for the World Championships.
