UA Trainer England Honored by State Associatio
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Dave England, a trainer at the University of Arkansas for 17 years, was named the Arkansas Athletic Trainers Association Trainer of the Year at the association’s annual convention this past weekend in Conway.

“It’s an award based on what you’ve done over the past year and it includes work as a trainer and work done for the association,” England says. “It means a lot because it’s voted on by our peers at the meeting.”

There are currently 190 members of the association representing universities, colleges, high schools and clinics throughout the state. Members can win the award just once.

A 1999 inductee into the AATA Hall of Fame, England got his start at Arkansas as a student trainer. After a stint in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, he returned to UA in 1984 and is the head trainer for the basketball and baseball programs. His job has taken him to the Final Four and the College World Series three times each, and to seven football bowl games.

England follows Dean Weber, UA’s director of athletic training, and former assistant Kevin Pitts, who were named co-Trainers of the Year by the AATA in 1998.
