UA Tennis Ranked No. 25 in Nation Expecting NCAA Bid Wednesday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The Arkansas tennis team has closed the regular season with a top 25 national ranking and the Razorbacks will find out on Wednesday who and where they play in the NCAA Tournament.

Arkansas is ranked No. 25 in the final regular season FILA Collegiate Tennis rankings, which came out on Monday. The Razorbacks are 17-10 overall, which is the best win total for the Hogs since the 1991 club went 18-8.

The NCAA Tournament pairings are announced on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN News. Arkansas is expecting its fifth bid to the tournament in the last six years.

In 2004, head coach Robert Cox’s team won a regional in Fayetteville and advanced to the round of 16.

The first round of this year’s tournament is set for May 12. The Razorbacks have won their first-round NCAA Tournament match in five of their last six appearances.

In addition to the No. 25 ranking, four Hogs are in the individual rankings.

Senior Adrians Zguns is No. 17 in the nation, senior Matt Roberts is No. 74, senior Rohan Gajjar No. 118 and freshman Blake Strode No. 121. Zguns, Strode and Roberts earned All-SEC honors this year.

Roberts leads the team with a 27-9 singles mark. Strode is 26-6, Zguns 24-10 and Gajjar 21-8. They’ve had plenty of help with Michael Jung going 23-8, Colin Mascall 12-11 and Austin King 11-7.

Zguns is third on Arkansas’ all-time victories list with 102. Roberts’ 27 wins tie for the 11th-best single-season total in school history while Strode’s 26 wins tie for 14th-best.
