Uriell, Razorbacks Third On Sunday
CHAPEL HILL, NC – University of Arkansas junior Alana Uriell posted her career-best fall finish leading the No. 24 Razorbacks to third place after final round action at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Sunday.
Uriell couldn’t have been more consistent, shooting 70-70-70=210 to finish third overall. Her scores paced Arkansas to rounds of 286-287-287=860 in the third of four fall events.
Uriell’s 210 is her second-best round as a Razorback and is her sixth top-10 finish. She finished the tournament playing the par-3 holes 4-under and had 12 birdies at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
Sophomore Maria Fassi tied for ninth place shooting 71–73–70—214, followed by newcomer Kayee Benton who tied for 22nd overall with scores of 72–70–78—220. Senior Samantha Marks had her best round on Sunday shooting 78–74–71—223 and sophomore Cara Gorlei rounded out the Razorbacks scoring with rounds of 73–76–76—225.
The Razorbacks wrap up the fall competition schedule Oct. 23-25, at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. They return to collegiate competition Feb. 12-14, at the Lady Puerto Classic.
From Shauna Estes-Taylor
We definitely had a shot today to accomplish our goal today but we came up a little bit short coming down the stretch. Overall, I’m really pleased with how we played this week. It was a tremendous team effort. Alana finishing third in this field is a great finish. Maria had a top-10 finish as well. We got a lot of good play out of Cara, Samantha and Kaylee as well. To win a golf tournament like this you have to ham-and-egg it pretty well and have a person in contention and we were really close to doing that this week. We came up a couple shots short of winning and one shot out of second. But, you know, it’s those moments that make you hungry and show you the value of fighting for every single shot out there. It’s a ball-striker’s golf course and I think we showed our strength in that. If we could have gotten a few putts to drop, that would have been a difference-maker.
