USA McCurdy win Curtis Cup

BANDON, Ore. — Despite a late charge from Great Britain & Ireland, the United States and team member Amanda McCurdy won the 2006 Curtis Cup Match Sunday in Bandon, Ore. The USA retained the Women’s International Cup with an 11 1/2 to 6 1/2 win at Pacific Dunes marking the fifth consecutive victory and the 25th (25-6-3) overall. The two-day event featured three foursomes in the morning and six singles matches in the afternoon. McCurdy opened play Saturday with Virginia Grimes and the duo captured a two-up victory helping the USA to a 3-0 start after the morning session. McCurdy, an El Dorado, Ark., native, did not play in the afternoon session but the home team extended its lead to 7-2 heading into Sunday’s play. GB&I made things interesting early winning two of the morning foursomes and halving the other match closing to 7 1/2-4 1/2 but the USA held on winning four of the final six singles matches to win the event. McCurdy dropped her Sunday afternoon singles match three-and-two trailing most of the round. For more information about Arkansas golf log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
