Uudmae Named SEC Field Athlete of the Week
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior All-American triple jumper Jaanus Uudmae was named the Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, after he posted a quality performance at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 14.
“Jaanus (Uudmae) is healthier than he’s ever been,” Arkansas field events coach Dick Booth said. “It seems like he’s got more of a determined attitude, because he knows this is his last go-round and he wants it to count and leave his mark on this program. He’s a senior and he’s the leader of the jumpers this year. He’s doing a good job and I feel like he’s physically ready to have the kind of year that he needs to have.”
The Tallinn, Estonia native came through on his last attempt in the triple jump to earn an NCAA provisional qualification of 52-7.50. His mark is currently leading the nation and gave him runner-up honors at the meet behind former Razorback great and 2004 Olympian Melvin Lister.
Uudmae and the rest of the Hog team will compete in Fayetteville, Ark., for the second-straight week when they host the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 21-22. Events will be held in the Randal Tyson Track Center.
