Vaughn named Associated Press All-SEC honorable mention

FAYETTEVILLE – Senior point guard Brittney Vaughn was named to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference team as an honorable mention selection.

Vaughn is the seventh Lady’Back to be selected by the AP for its all-SEC squad, and the first player since Shameka Christon was the AP player of the year for the SEC. She joins Dana Cherry as the only honorable mention selections in the 10-year history of the team. Cherry was honorable mention all-SEC by the AP after the 2002 season.

Earlier this month, Vaughn was voted by the SEC coaches to the league’s all-defense team.

Arkansas’ leading scorer in SEC games, Vaughn was the team’s No. 2 scorer overall this season with 10.6 ppg and the leader in assists (4.3 apg) and steals (58 total).

She was named all-tournament at the Blue Sky Classic in December as Arkansas opened the season with a school-record 15-0 start.

Vaughn will represent Arkansas at the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association Convention at the 2008 Women’s NCAA Final Four. Vaughn will receive the WBCA’s Robin Roberts Award, a post-graduate scholarship for women’s basketball players who have an interest in broadcast journalism. She is also a participant in the inaugural WBCA “So You Want to be a Coach” program.

Vaughn was also selected second-team all-district on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program. She will graduate this spring with her degree in broadcast journalism.

Arkansas finished the season 17-13.
