DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Victoria Vela and Meagan Roberts moved up the leaderboard in the second round of the National Golf Coaches Association Hooter’s Team Collegiate Championship in Dahlonega, Ga.
The duo combined in the second round’s best ball format shooting a seven-under 65 at Achasta, By Reynolds, moving up into a tie for 17th place overall with a 143 (78-65) in the 53-team field. The first round was alternate shot and Thursday’s play is a team stroke format.
Vela and Roberts picked up eight birdies in the round and suffered just one bogey – that coming on the first hole of play on the Championship course. Vela was able to birdie the second followed by birdies on the fourth and sixth holes by Roberts.
The back nine started with a birdie from Roberts with Vela adding birdies on the 12th and 13th holes. The Razorback tandem birdied four in a row with Roberts birding the 14th and Vela the 15th in the round.
Vela and Roberts played the course seven-under Wednesday and their score was the third best for the day.
Alabama’s Brooke Pancake and Jenny Kirby continue to lead the field. The Crimson Tide due is 11-under for the tournament with a 133 (68-65).
