Victoria Earns Second Preseason All-SEC Nod

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Off a bronze-medal effort with Puerto Rico at the XVI Pan American Cup, outside hitter Pilar Victoria is mentioned among the conference’s best as a member of the 2017 Preseason All-SEC Team as announced Wednesday morning by the league office. The ten-player team was voted on by the league’s head coaches. In the preseason team poll, Arkansas was picked to finish eighth in the SEC.

The Razorbacks begin their season Aug. 25-26 with the Arkansas Classic at Barnhill Arena, opening the year against CSU Bakersfield at 7 p.m. (CT). The home tournament also includes ULM and Utah State. As part of its schedule, Arkansas has 10 matches against eight teams that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

Victoria is set to return to the court after a redshirt season in 2016. During an All-SEC campaign in 2015, she led the league and was 10th in the NCAA with a single-season program record 4.61 kills per set. She also led the SEC and was 15th in the nation with 5.10 points per set. Victoria tallied double-digit kills in 28 of 30 matches including 20 or more kills in 11 matches. Victoria was previously voted to the Preseason All-SEC in 2016.

The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native registered three 30-kill performances, all during SEC play and finished the 2015 season with 525 kills becoming the ninth Razorback in program history to record 500 kills in a single season. Victoria averaged 2.50 digs per set on her way to leading Arkansas and finished third in the SEC with 15 double-doubles. She also produced from the service line with 25 aces.

Entering its second season under head coach Jason Watson, Arkansas picked up 70 points in the preseason coaches’ poll. Preseason SEC favorite and defending co-champion Florida visits Barnhill Arena on Sept. 24 match. The Razorbacks begin their conference season Wed., Sept. 20 with a home match against Tennessee.
