FAYETTEVILLE The University of Arkansas volleyball team announced its spring schedule this week.
Arkansas has five competitive dates including a home spring tournament and new for 2008, the SEC Coaches Beach Championship.
The Southeastern Conference coaches have organized a beach tournament April 11-12, at the SW Recreation Center Beach Courts on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Fla. There will be practices and a banquet on Friday followed by pool play from 9:30-4:00 p.m. Saturday. A Bronze Medal match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., followed by the Gold Medal match at 7:00 p.m.
In addition to the beach event, the Lady Razorbacks travel to Missouri State April 5, Texas April 12, host a tournament April 19 and travel to Oklahoma April 26.
The spring opens at Missouri State where the Lady Razorbacks face the host Bears along with Tulsa and ORU. Missouri State finished the 2007 season with a 28-5 overall record and reached the NCAA Tournament first round. Tulsa was also an NCAA Tournament participant ending the year with a 27-9 overall mark. ORU notched 16 wins last year and returns nearly every player.
The Texas event schedule is still up in the air but Arkansas returns home hosting Missouri State, Tulsa, ORU and Missouri the following week. Arkansas adds Missouri to the list of opponents this weekend. The Tigers were an NCAA Tournament participant finishing the 2007 season with a 17-13 record.
The Lady’Backs wrap up the spring at Oklahoma again taking on OU, TCU and the OU Alumni. The Sooners reached the 2007 NCAA Regionals ending their season with a 22-10 mark while TCU finished with a 22-12 record.
