FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas volleyball team posted a 3.53 grade point average for the spring 2007 semester marking the best team GPA ever.
The Lady Razorbacks had 12 athletes with a 3.00 GPA or higher paced by three Women’s Athletics Department Academic Champions with perfect 4.00 GPAs.
Kelli Cole and Jessica Dorrell, both of whom will be seniors on the 2007 roster, along with junior transfer Yun Tang all garnered the perfect marks. Cole is an English major and plans to teach after graduation. The 5-3 defensive specialist hails from Russellville, Ark.
Dorrell, an Aledo, Texas, native, is one of two returning outside hitters from last year’s NCAA Tournament participant team. She is majoring in finance.
Tang joined the Lady Razorbacks in January from Beijing, China. The 6-3 middle blocker battled the language barrier while training with the team this spring but still posted a 4.0.
“I’m very proud of the entire team’s success in the classroom,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. “Everyone has worked really hard both in and out of the gym and I think the grades are a reflection of the commitment this team has to the University.”
The Lady Razorbacks had 47 student-athletes on the Athletic Director’s list with grades in the 3.50-3.99 range. Seven volleyball players made the list. They are Amy Allison (kinesiology), Kele Brewer (kinesiology), Destiny Clark (kinesiology), Caira Daugherty (psychology), Sarah Freudenrich (Chemistry), Denitza Koleva (kinesiology) and Ashley Miller (health science).
Two other Lady Razorbacks were also honored with grades in the 3.00-3.49 range earning them selection to the Women’s Athletics Department Honor Roll. Catherine Fowler (international business) and Christina Lawrence (animal science) were both named to the Honor Roll.
The Lady Razorbacks officially begin the 2007 season with the first practice in mid-August. The 2007 schedule begins with a home tournament Aug. 24-25. The complete schedule will be released soon. For more information about Arkansas volleyball, please log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
